Volcanic Eruption in Tonga

Emergency Appeal

On 15 January 2022, the underwater volcano Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha’apai erupted.

The eruption generated an ash plume 19.2 km high and caused significant ash fall across Tonga. On top of this, the eruption generated massive tsunami waves.

There's a lot more to do.

We have been working with the Anglican Diocese of Polynesia, distributing emergency supplies of food, shelter, water, dry wood, children’s packs, dignity packs, and cleaning equipment. There’s still a lot to do. Here’s what your donations will help fund:

  • Specialist social and mental health services for children
  • Repairing buildings (including churches) which are often used as evacuation centres
  • Repairing and building new water tanks
  • Community support  to help people get back to work with gardening, agriculture, and fishing

How to donate effectively.

The Anglican Diocese of Polynesia is encouraging people to donate money rather than goods. Tap the button below to read how to donate effectively.
