Tropical Cyclone Yasa Emergency Appeal

The Category 5 cyclone had sustained winds of 250km/h with gusts reaching 350km/h and causing waves of up to 12m. Locals affected have described it as “the most terrifying experience of their lives” and a Fijian journalist reported that she had “never seen anything like it before”.

The Anglican Church in Fiji responded immediately, assessing the impact and levels of damage and helping alleviate immediate suffering of vulnerable communities. While this immediate Appeal is now closed, we are still using funds to help restore the lives, buildings and livelihoods of those affected, and to improve Disaster Response and Resilience in preparation for further inevitable natural disasters.
